Vent: lost $40 to a "profile picture" bot on a dating site back in 2019
Back in 2019 I paid $40 for a month on this dating site because a girl named "Cassie" kept messaging me first, always sweet, always asking about my day. She had 6 photos, all kind of blurry, and her answers started sounding copy pasted after a bit. Turns out the same 3 lines got sent to everyone, and a guy on Reddit posted a screenshot of "her" saying the exact same thing to him. $40 gone and the site never refunded a dime, has anyone here ever got money back from one of these?

A buddy of mine got taken for like $60 on one of those apps around the same time. The girl "Mia" would send these long good morning texts and then hit him with a sob story about her phone bill or whatever. He tried to get his money back through PayPal and they basically told him since he sent it as friends and family he was out of luck. He even filed a chargeback with his bank and they sided with the app. The site shut down like two months later so he never saw a penny. Lesson learned the hard way for both of you I guess.
