DAE think those "is this a bot?" tests are a trap? I lost $30 on one in Austin
Saw one of those "prove you're human" quizzes advertised on a dating app sub. It said it would scan a chat log and tell me if my match was fake. Cost $30 for a month. Turns out it just flags anyone who writes short replies. Every single one of my matches got labeled "likely bot." I ran my own texts through it as a test and it called ME a bot. Called their help line and the guy said "the tool is a guide, not a verdict." So I won't use these scan apps anymore, I'll just do it by hand. What's the dumbest thing you've paid for trying to spot a bot?
$30 a month for a text scanner is rough. I dropped $12 on one of those "reverse lookup" sites after a match gave me a number that felt off, and it just pulled up a random guy in Ohio who had nothing to do with anything. The app had sold me public record junk and dressed it up like a cheat code. Save your money and use the free stuff: a video call before you meet, ask a question only a local would know, and see if their story stays the same a week later. Bots and scammers slip up on small details way more than they fail some paid quiz.
