Hot take: that bag of 'topsoil' from the garden center in Mesa almost killed my whole raised bed

I dumped two 40 lb bags into my 4x8 bed last Saturday and by Tuesday my basil and peppers were yellow and curling, so I dug down and found the stuff was mostly clay and mulch clumps, not soil. I ripped it all out, mixed in peat and perlite, and made the store refund me the $14, but has anyone else been burned by a brand that switches suppliers mid-season?
