Met an older guy at a plant swap who told me to stop babying my succulents and just water them once a month whether they look thirsty or not

He said I was killing them with kindness by watering twice as often during summer, and after trying his method for 4 months every single one of them bounced back even the ones I thought were goners, has anyone else had a random stranger's advice totally change how you care for a specific type of plant?

That "stop babying them" part hit home for me, I was doing the same thing with my snake plants until someone told me to back off and now they actually look happy instead of droopy. Solidarity man, sometimes we just need someone to tell us to leave em alone.

Isnt it crazy how we think we gotta baby things to keep em alive but really we're just smothering em? @abbyp61 i havent read that book but it sounds exactly right, like my succulents were all limp and mushy from me watering every week thinking they needed it. Turns out the old dude at the swap was spot on - theyre desert plants, theyre used to going dry for weeks. I bet you got a similar story with something else in your collection, did you switch up how you water your cacti or snake plants after reading that? Thats the whole thing with plants, you gotta let em teach you instead of forcing your own schedule on em.

Did you read that book about the dude who ignored his plants and they thrived?
