I was reading a local park brochure from 2019 and it said the big oak near my apartment in Charlotte is over 300 years old, which blew my mind because it just looks like a regular tree people tie their dogs to. Turns out arborists can date a living tree without cutting it down by taking a thin core sample, and that one survived the Civil War, two hurricanes, and a city that paved right up to its roots. Has anyone else found an old tree in their neighborhood that turned out to be way more historic than it looks?
