Update: that 'shy' peace lily my neighbor gave me is 14 years old and was never repotted
She said she bought it at a Kroger in Dayton back in 2011 and it has been in the same plastic pot with the same dirt ever since. Now I'm scared to touch mine, do these things actually do better when you ignore them?

Yikes, that plant is basically a fossil in a pot. Honestly peace lilies are drama queens that droop when they want water, so they kind of train you to leave them alone. Ngl the less you mess with the roots the happier they seem to be.
