Warning: my fiddle leaf fig dropped 9 leaves until I put it on a 5 gallon bucket
My fiddle leaf fig sat in the corner of my Chicago apartment for 7 months and dropped 9 leaves while I messed with watering schedules and fertilizer. Last month I raised the pot onto a 5 gallon bucket so it sits right in front of my south window, and it has pushed out 4 new leaves since then. The light was the whole problem the entire time, so now I'm wondering how many other plants I've been slow killing in that same dark corner?
Wait, 7 months? You just let it sit there dropping leaves for over half a year before trying something as simple as moving it closer to the window? That is wild to me. I get it though, because I did the same thing with a rubber plant in my old place, kept blaming the water and the soil and the humidity when really the poor thing was just begging for some actual sunlight. Nine leaves is a lot of damage to undo, but those 4 new ones popping up so fast tells you everything you need to know about how much light matters.
