Bought a $60 cordless vac for my car, the brush roller jammed after 3 uses, and fixing it took me 4 hours
Picked up a cheap cordless handheld vac at a hardware store in Boise back in March, mostly for dog hair on my truck seats. Third time using it, the brush roller just locked up solid. I figured it was hair wrapped around the axle, so I pulled the roller out, cleaned it, popped it back in. Still dead. Took the whole head apart with a tiny Torx bit I had to dig out of my junk drawer. Turns out a single penny had wedged itself between the roller and the housing and sheared a little plastic tab clean off. The tab is the thing that spins the roller. No tab, no spin. I spent 4 hours total between the cleaning, the tear down, googling the model, and trying to glue the tab back with super glue, which did not hold. Replacement head is $28 shipped, so now I am deciding between that and just buying a better vac. If you have one of these things, do not vacuum coins, and check that tab before you assume it is just hair. Anyone found a way to beef up that plastic tab or am I just buying a new head?
Man that plastic tab is the weak spot on every cheap vac, I snapped mine on a paperclip and spent way too long trying to melt it back with a soldering iron. Just grab the new head, that super glue trick never holds for more than a day.
