My phone told me I watched 340 short clips on a Tuesday, and I don't remember one of them
I check my screen time every Sunday and wrote the number on a sticky note. The first week of March I clocked 47 minutes of short videos in one day, by April it was 3 hours and 12 minutes, same apps, same couch in my apartment in Portland. What actually changes in your head that makes 40 minutes of scrolling feel the same as 3 hours, and does anyone else track this stuff on purpose?
The thing that gets me is how the videos themselves are built to erase the memory of the one before. Every clip ends right at the punchline or the big reveal, so your brain never gets that little closing moment that tells it "okay, that's done, file it away." Three hours of that and you have no file folders at all, just one long blur. I noticed this with cooking videos, I can watch twenty in a row and remember maybe two. But if I sit and watch one ten minute video on the same recipe, I can tell you every step the next day.
