Uncovered the weirdest "carpet cleaning" hack and it took 2 days to undo

I was scrolling past this trend where people pour dish soap and baking soda on rugs, then scrub with a drill brush. Saw it 11 times before I finally tried it on my living room rug in Portland. Turns out the soap leaves a sticky film that attracts every piece of lint and pet hair in a 20 foot radius. My drill battery died twice, and now I'm renting a steam cleaner this weekend. Has anyone else fallen for this one and ended up worse off than before?

Jumped straight into that same trap last month on a thrift store rug I got for cheap. Let me tell you, I spent an entire weekend scrubbing white foam out of the fibers while my cat watched me like I was losing my mind. The sticky film grabbed so much dust that the rug looked dirtier than before, like I'd poured glue on it and rolled it down the sidewalk. My drill overheated and started smoking a little, which was honestly the highlight because it gave me an excuse to stop. Ended up paying a pro $80 to fix my mess, and now I just vacuum like a normal person.
