The cashier who judged my grocery cart full of beans and rice

Last Tuesday at the Kroger on 5th, I had a cart stacked with 12 bags of dried pinto beans, 8 pounds of rice, and a big jar of cheap salsa. The lady scanning my stuff looks at me and says, 'You know they have canned beans right, honey?' with this smirk like I was too dumb to cook. I told her the dried ones cost about 80 cents a pound versus 2 bucks a can, and my family eats on this for a week for under 15 dollars total. She just shrugged and moved on, but it stuck with me how quick people assume poor means lazy. I'm not mad exactly, just tired of explaining that a little prep time saves us a chunk each month. Anyone else get side comments when you're clearly stocking up on the cheap stuff? What do you say back without being rude?

Man, that cashier missed the whole point. But heads up, dried beans are closer to 89 cents a pound now, not 80. Still a steal compared to canned, so your math holds up fine.

Saw a news piece saying dried beans are way cheaper per serving, but canned wins on convenience, so it's all about time vs money.
