TIL that paying for seat selection is a scam if you fly solo and don't care where you sit
I used to drop $15 to $40 every single flight just to pick my seat, and last month in Vegas the gate agent moved me to an exit row for free anyway because I was flying alone. That is when it hit me, I had burned probably $300 over two years on seat maps for nothing. Airlines bank on you panicking about getting stuck in a middle seat, but if you check in exactly 24 hours out on a solo ticket you usually land a decent spot. Now I just roll the dice and pocket the cash. Has anyone actually gotten stuck in a truly awful seat doing this, or does it always work out?
