My dad bet me $50 I couldn't go 3 months without takeout, and I won but not how he expected
My dad laughed when I said I was cutting our food budget in half back in January. He bet me $50 I would cave within 6 weeks and grab fast food. So I started cooking every Sunday and packing lunches, and by week 3 we were saving about $85 a week. The trick was honestly just doing a big grocery run on Saturday mornings when the store marks down meat. My wife joined in after a couple weeks and now we meal plan together on the couch with a notepad. The funny part is he handed over the $50 in March and asked me for my grocery list template. Has anyone else had a family member doubt a money goal, and did it push you to actually stick with it?
How much did your dad's doubt actually fuel you vs just wanting to prove him wrong? I had a similar thing with my brother betting me I couldn't quit energy drinks for a month and honestly the bet did way more for me than any app or plan ever did. It's weird how a little trash talk from family can light a fire under you. Now he's the one asking me how I did it. Funny how that flips.
