PSA: Paid $650 for a lawyer to review my handyman contract, worth every penny
I run a two person handyman outfit in Boise and last fall a client wanted me to sign their own contract before starting a $9,400 deck rebuild. Something about the payment schedule felt off so I paid a local business lawyer $650 to read it over, which felt like a lot for a few pages. He found a clause that let them withhold final payment for 90 days after completion and another that stuck me with all permit costs if the city flagged anything. We redlined it, they signed the new version, and I got paid in full two days after the final walkthrough. Anyone else get burned by signing a client's paper without having it looked at first?
