I started watching subbed anime instead of dubbed and my whole world opened up

For about 3 years I only watched dubbed stuff because I thought reading subtitles would be too slow for me. Then I forced myself to try Attack on Titan subbed during a long bus ride last month. I caught details in the voice acting that just don't come through in the dub, like that raw emotion in Eren's screams. Now I'm rewatching old favorites subbed and it's like hearing them for the first time. Has anyone else felt like they missed half the story watching dubbed?

Just figured out a dumb trick for cleaning sooty brick without damaging it

I was scrubbing a chimney in an old house near Richmond last Tuesday and the mortar kept crumbling every time I tried to brush the black off. Out of frustration I grabbed a dry sponge instead of a wet one and it lifted the soot without wrecking the brick at all. Has anyone else accidentally stumbled onto a simpler method that saved their bacon?

Hot take: Asking for a "dream job" in an interview is a huge red flag

I sit on hiring panels for my station sometimes and every time someone says their dream job is "helping customers" or "making a difference" I know they watched one too many LinkedIn videos. Last week a guy told me his dream was to deliver smiles. I almost choked on my coffee. Just tell me you can handle a 10 hour route in the rain without crying and we're good. Who else has had an interview go south because of this fake enthusiasm stuff?

Realized I was the fake outrage after that town council meeting last Tuesday

Spent 30 minutes ranting about a zoning change I read on Facebook, then actually showed up and found out the poster had the wrong street numbers. Felt like a total idiot. Anyone else catch themselves getting fired up before checking the source?

That concrete pour last Tuesday in Pensacola went sideways on me

The mix came in way too wet because the plant forgot the water reducer, and I ended up having to bullfloat everything twice just to get the surface right. Has anyone else had a supplier screw up a load and leave you scrambling to fix it?

Had a chat with a retired butcher named Sal at the farmers market on Saturday

He told me he NEVER used a bandsaw for breaking down primals because he said the heat ruins the texture around the bone, and now I'm questioning my whole $3,500 investment in a new one, has anyone else gone back to hand saws and noticed a difference?

That muddy field in Lexington last spring made me rethink my whole approach to shoeing

I was out at a farm in Lexington Kentucky back in April for a routine trim and shoe on a 5-year-old gelding. Ground was pure mud from all the rain we'd had, about 3 inches deep in the paddock. I popped his front left shoe off during the trim because the nail heads were buried and I couldn't get a good bite. By the time I finished, mud had packed inside my apron pockets and I couldn't find my hoof knife for 10 minutes. Now I refuse to work on anything but packed gravel or dry stalls after a soaking rain. Any of you guys set rules about ground conditions before you'll take a job?

Met a retired barber at the Charlotte NC trade show who showed me a trick for blending fades with a damp brush

This old timer was just sitting there at a booth nobody was at, and I walked over to kill time. He pulled out a fine mist spray bottle and a boar bristle brush, and he brushed the fade line while the hair was still wet. I thought he was nuts, but the blend came out smooth as anything. No more harsh lines even on coarse hair. Do you guys ever use water or product to help blend, or is that just for the old school guys?

Tried astrophotography with an old DSLR and got better shots than my fancy telescope

I bought a used Canon 60D off Craigslist for $200 and figured I'd try taking pics of the Orion Nebula with just a standard 75-300mm lens on a tripod. No tracking mount or anything fancy. I stacked about 50 short exposures in DeepSkyStacker and couldn't believe what came out - you could actually see the nebula's shape and color. My $800 telescope with a smartphone adapter gave me worse results every time. Learned that aperture and sensor quality beat magnification for deep space stuff. Has anyone else had luck with just a camera and lens for nebula shots?

Found a way to get Mom's pills sorted in under 10 minutes flat

My mom is 78 and on 6 different medications with different times of day. I was spending like 30 minutes every Sunday sorting her pill organizer and always messing it up. Last week I tried using a simple pill tray with removable compartments instead of the regular 7-day box. I label each compartment with a sticker for morning, noon, evening, and night. It takes me maybe 8 minutes now and I haven't made a single mistake since. Has anyone else switched to a different system that saved you time?
