My $40 inflatable kayak popped on the Guadalupe after 2 trips

I grabbed a cheap 2 person inflatable kayak for $40 at a garage sale in New Braunfels last month, and it popped a seam on the second trip down the Guadalupe when it hit a rock near mile 6. I had to drag it to shore and hitch a ride back to the outfitter, and now I'm out the $40 plus a $25 shuttle fee. Should I patch it with a $15 kit or just put that cash toward a hard shell?
