Paid $130 for a fancy travel mug, found a $9 one that works better

Last month I grabbed a titanium travel mug at a shop in Portland because the reviews were glowing. It kept my coffee lukewarm for about an hour, and the lid leaked in my backpack. Yesterday I grabbed a cheap steel one from a gas station for $9 and it held heat for 6 hours on a school run. Anyone else gotten burned by premium gear while the budget version wins? What's the worst 'worth it' item you've actually regretted?

Read somewhere that pricey gear often just sells you a name, not better heat.
