Serious question, does buying a used car at a dealer auction ever beat just haggling online?
I spent 6 weeks looking for a used car and almost went to a dealer auction in Phoenix with my uncle. He paid $300 for the buyer pass and got a 2016 sedan for $11,200, but then dropped $1,800 on new brakes and a timing belt a month later. I went the Facebook Marketplace route instead and paid $12,400 for a similar car that already had new tires and a clean service log. Yeah I paid a bit more upfront, but I haven't had to touch anything except oil changes since. Has anyone actually done the auction thing and come out ahead without getting burned?
