Pocket hole screws vs dowels, dowels won my last 14 cabinet doors

I built a set of shaker doors for a kitchen remodel in Portland last month and tried dowels for the first time after years of only pocket holes. The alignment jig cost me about 60 bucks but the joints came out dead square with no tear out on the face frames. Has anyone else switched back to traditional joinery for doors that see a lot of humidity changes?
