Finally tried that new fish tape from Klein versus my old steel one

The fiberglass one is way lighter and doesn't kink, which saved me a ton of time on a crawl space job in Tacoma last Tuesday. Anyone have a good trick for keeping the end from fraying after a few uses?

My old steel fish tape from 2012 finally gave up the ghost last month. It's funny how the best tools are the ones you don't notice until they fail. I used a bit of heat shrink tubing on the end of my new fiberglass one, just a small piece, and it seems to hold the strands together pretty well. It feels like half my job is just finding little fixes for stuff that wears out a little too fast.

Nice, heat shrink is a smart fix. How many uses do you get before you have to replace the tubing?

Honestly, I find heat shrink to be a total band-aid fix. It always cracks and gets brittle after a few pulls, especially in the cold. You're better off just using a proper, heavy-duty electrical tape and wrapping it right. That stuff molds to the shape and lasts way longer in my experience. Heat shrink looks neat at first, but it just doesn't hold up to real work.
