Hot take: factory repair manuals are overrated, tear-down videos beat them every time

I spent 3 hours last Tuesday following a 1987 Canon manual for a stuck shutter on an AE-1 and got nowhere, then a 12 minute YouTube teardown showed the exact spring trick. The back-and-forth I keep having is whether old-school schematics build better judgment or just waste time, what's your call after 10+ years in this trade?
