My mentor said to stop chasing every broken shutter, and I finally get what he meant
My old boss Gary came by the shop on Tuesday and watched me dig into a jammed shutter on a beat up Pentax K1000. He said, "You spend 6 hours on a $90 repair when three Rolleiflex jobs are sitting on your bench." I got defensive at first because I love bringing dead cameras back, but the math hit me hard when I added it up. I do maybe $400 of work on cameras nobody will pay to fix while the stuff that pays $250 an hour sits untouched. So now I'm wondering, do you all turn away the cheap sentimental jobs or do you just eat the loss because it feels good?
