PSA: check your shutter blades after a CLA, I saw the difference in 3 months
Sent a customer's Pentax K1000 out for a CLA in March and got it back looking clean. Pulled it last week for a light seal job and the shutter blades had a thin oil film on them. The repair slip showed the mech used way too much lube on the curtain shaft. Between March and now the oil crept onto the blades and started hanging on the slower speeds. At 1/15 the second curtain dragged bad. I'm now taking macro shots of every shutter before I reassemble a body, and I log the date. Anyone else seeing lube creep from outside CLA work lately?
That oil creep is a classic sign of too much lube on the curtain shaft, and the slow speeds always show it first. Pull the shutter and clean the blades with naphtha on a pecan swab, then hit the shaft with just a whisper of Moebius 9010. Anything heavier and it walks again in a few months. Keep taking those date-stamped macro shots, that log will save you when a mech tries to blame the body. Also check the mirror box while you're in there, oil loves to pool on the foam.
