A stranger's tip about my stove almost ruined our trip

Last August at a crowded Camp Walmart in Flagstaff, an old guy walked up while I was struggling with my propane stove and said 'you're wasting fuel, the regulator needs to click twice.' I ignored him because my gear was fine, but after a week of weak flames and cold stew I finally tried his trick and it worked perfectly. Has anyone else gotten unsolicited advice from a random camper that turned out to be way better than any review you read online?
