Pro tip: a chat with my nephew about his new tent made me feel old

He got this fancy 3-person tent from REI with a built-in LED light strip and a phone charging port. I told him my old Coleman from 2005 just needs a flashlight, and he looked at me like I suggested using a rock to start a fire. It hit different because he wasn't being rude, he just genuinely didn't see the point of gear without tech. Has anyone else had a kid make their trusty old equipment seem like a museum piece?

Nah, simpler gear is way more reliable.

Simpler gear" is a crazy thing to say about this setup.

Right? What even counts as simple anymore? I saw a rig last week with three separate power conditioners and a custom patch bay... calling that simple feels like a joke. My old band ran everything into a single mixer and it never let us down once. More stuff just means more things that can go wrong in the middle of a set.
