The $14 camp hatchet that split my hot dog bun and my ego at Silver Falls

Went camping at Silver Falls last weekend with my cousin. I brought this tiny throwaway hatchet from a gas station, figured it was fine for splitting kindling. First try, the head flew off and landed right in our cooler, smashing the hot dog buns. My cousin laughed so hard he fell off his camp chair. I spent the rest of the trip using a flat rock to break branches. Anyone else had a budget tool fail in the most embarrassing way possible?
