He swore his $12 thrift store wool blanket kept him warmer than my fancy bag through a 28 degree night, and honestly my toes were freezing by 4 am. Has anyone else been humbled by cheap gear that actually works?

There's something almost embarrassing about how often the simple solution beats the expensive one. The whole outdoor industry runs on convincing you that comfort costs money, but a thick wool blanket has been doing its job for hundreds of years. Makes you wonder how many other things we're overpaying for just because someone slapped a fancy label on it.
