Dropped $80 on a used PA system for my cousin's wedding toast, and one speaker blew out mid-sentence
So about 3 years back my cousin asked me to run sound for his wedding in Sacramento, and I found a used PA setup on Craigslist for $80. Saved me big time on the rental, or so I thought, until the left speaker started crackling during his best man's speech and then just died. He kept going, half the room missed his joke, and now every time we watch the video you can hear me fumbling with cables in the background. Looking back on it, I think folks are way quicker to forgive a tech screwup like that than a bad speech, but I'm not sure the bride has let it go. Anyone here ever had a live event go sideways and actually get forgiven for it, or does that stuff just stick forever?
At least the speaker had the decency to die during the speech and not the vows, that would've been a whole different level of hell to pay. Bad audio fades from memory but a bad best man speech gets roasted at every family dinner for a decade, so you probably got off easy. Give the bride a couple more years and a few drinks, she'll laugh about it eventually.
