DAE find out 80,000 hours is not actually a job site? I wasted 2 weeks on it
Last week I was hunting for career advice and someone in a comment thread kept mentioning 80,000 hours like it was a magic number for picking a path. I finally looked it up and it turns out it is about how many hours you work in a whole career, roughly 40 hours a week for 40 years. I had been treating it like some test score or ranking system for two whole weeks, comparing jobs on it like an idiot. The thing that really got me was a line on their site saying the average person has about 80,000 hours to spend on work, so where you point them matters more than most people think. I sat at my kitchen table in Dayton with a notebook and just stared at that number for a while. Has anyone else here ever misread a career stat this badly, or am I the only one?
