Showerthought: I thought networking events were a waste until a recruiter in Dallas called me out at one
I always skipped those mixer things because I figured handing out cards to strangers never goes anywhere. Then two months ago I went to a free job seeker meetup at a library in Dallas just to get out of the house, and a recruiter there flat out asked what I was doing looking for work at a networking event if I hated networking. That stung but he was honest, and he showed me his phone with 14 open roles he never posts publicly. I started actually talking to people at these things and got two interviews off one conversation in under a week. Now I show up early and stay till they kick us out. If you hate mixers too, what got you to finally give them a fair shot?
