Switched from chasing titles to chasing skills after a bad hire in Dallas
I used to only look at job postings that had the exact title I wanted, like 'Marketing Manager' or 'Project Lead'. A recruiter in Dallas told me last March that titles are just labels and the real value is in the specific tasks listed. So I started applying for roles with similar day-to-day duties but different names, like 'Operations Coordinator' or 'Client Success Specialist'. Got three interviews in a month and realized I was missing out on a whole better fit. Has anyone else had luck ignoring the job title and reading the bullets instead?
Start filtering by the actual daily grind in the bullets, not the title, and you'll find way more hits that match what you really do. Three interviews in a month proves it, so just keep doing that and ignore the label entirely.
