The week I stopped doing everyone else's job at my office and got a promotion, not fired
Last month my boss was out for 5 days and I decided to only do my own work, nothing extra. I had been covering for two coworkers on my team for almost 8 months, staying late, and answering their client emails. That week I left at 5pm every single day and finished my own stuff by Thursday. On Friday my boss came back and asked why a client had complained about a slow reply. I said it was not my account. Turns out the client copied me out of habit and my boss looked at the chain and saw I was never assigned. She pulled me into a meeting on Monday and moved me to a new team with a $4,000 raise. Has anyone else found out the hard way that being the safety net just keeps you invisible?
