Am I the only one who switched from cutting stair stringers with a framing square to a template jig and now cant go back
For years I laid out every stringer by hand with a framing square and a pencil, tapping the rise and run on each one, and I was always chasing a 1/8 inch gap somewhere by the time I set the treads. About 3 years back a guy on my crew cut me a pair of plywood templates on the table saw for a 7 1/2 rise with a 10 inch run, and I bolted them to a 2x12 with a couple of screws and just traced them out. Now a full set of stairs takes me maybe 20 minutes to lay out instead of over an hour, and every stringer comes off the same. My old squares are still in the truck but I only grab one for oddball runs now. How are you all laying yours out?
