Vent: rewatching Scooby-Doo at 27 made me see how cheap the hallway chases really were
Last weekend I sat through a full Scooby-Doo marathon with my roommate and it hit me: every single chase scene uses the exact same looping hallway background. They run past the same potted plant like 6 times in one episode and somehow the gang never notices they're circling the same spot in the mansion. Compare that to the old Tom and Jerry shorts, where each room had its own layout and doors that led somewhere new, so the chases felt real. Did the Hanna-Barbera crew just run out of backgrounds, or was that lazy animation a thing back in 1969?
