Went 11 days without buying a single 'collector's edition' and my wallet finally noticed
I keep a running list in my notes app of stuff I almost bought because some ad called it limited, and last week I finally went back and counted. 14 items over 11 days, everything from a $38 'artisan' candle shaped like a console controller to a $90 vinyl repress of an album that came out 3 years ago and is still in print. What made it stand out was flipping the list around and seeing that 9 of the 14 had a countdown timer on the page, and 3 used the exact same stock photo of a hand holding a ticket. I'm a bartender so I make decent tips but not 'drop $90 on a repress' money, and closing all those tabs felt better than any of those buys would have. Called my buddy Dave who collects and he laughed and said half those 'limited' runs get a restock email within 4 months. So now I'm curious, what's the tell you all look for that a 'limited drop' is just a regular product wearing a costume?
