Remember when celebrity apologies didn't come with a press release?

I was watching some old clips and the cringe felt genuine. Now every apology is a sleek product launch for their image.

My own awkward apologies still beat Kevin Spacey's 2017 video by a mile.

Marlon Brando in 1972 proved raw apologies could be more harmful than any PR statement.

Remember when Shia LaBeouf did that whole paper bag apology at the Berlin film festival. That was raw, I guess, but man it felt more like a weird art piece than saying sorry. Sometimes trying too hard to be real just makes it all about the act, not the person you hurt. Brando sending that Native American woman to refuse his Oscar feels kinda similar now, like a statement that overshadows everything. Hard to tell what's genuine emotion and what's just a performance.

What if the apology is so raw it becomes its own kind of show? Then it's just a different type of act.
