Watching two gossip sites cover the same celebrity split was a masterclass in sourcing
One just reposted a random tweet from a 'close pal' while the other actually got a quote from the couple's publicist, proving that checking a single source can make all the difference between real news and total noise.

Take the publicist quote situation. If one site has an actual statement from someone official and the other is just reprinting old rumors with a clickbait headline, those are not the same level of noise. The one with the direct quote gives you something real to weigh, even if you don't fully trust the source. The rumor site gives you nothing but speculation dressed up as facts. Morgan.jason's point about all of it being noise is fair, but I think there's a real difference between hearing from the horse's mouth and hearing from someone's third cousin's hairdresser. That distinction matters more than people give it credit for.

The publicist quote is still just a managed statement, not some deep truth. Both sites are pushing a story, just with different levels of access. Morgan.jason has a point about the noise, but the one with the quote isn't automatically real news. It's just the official version of the noise. The whole game is built on giving people what they want to hear, not what actually happened.
