I had a chef call my knife work "decorative" once, which stung for about a week. The thing was, she wasn't wrong. I was so worried about how the cuts looked that I was slow as hell on the line. Took me a while to figure out she meant I was hiding behind pretty prep instead of just getting the onions done. Your mileage may vary but sometimes those weird comments stick because there's a tiny piece of truth in them.
