Found a way to stop ash dust blowing back in the living room during a sweep in Cheyenne
Did a job in Cheyenne a couple weeks back on an old ranch house and the homeowner kept giving me looks every time a puff of ash drifted off the drop cloth. Her living room rug was cream colored, so I got it. What worked was laying a slightly damp canvas tarp right at the hearth lip, overlapping the drop cloth by about a foot. The moisture grabs the fine ash instead of letting the vac exhaust kick it loose. I also taped the plastic sheeting to the mantel edge with 2 inch blue tape instead of just draping it, which kept the seal tight when the brush went up. Total extra time was maybe 6 minutes per job and she said afterward she found zero grit on the rug. Cost me like $12 at the hardware store for a second tarp I keep in the truck just for this. Wondering if anyone here uses a misting bottle on the dust sheet or if that just makes a mud mess on the brick.
