My old boss told me to skip the camera on every third job

He said it saved time and most chimneys are fine. I did that for about six months, until a routine sweep in a house on Elm Street. I found a huge crack in the flue liner that the camera would have caught. The homeowner was not happy, and I had to eat the cost of the repair. Now I use the camera on every single job, no exceptions. Has anyone else had a bad experience from trying to cut corners like that?

My last foreman at Ridgeview Roofing pushed us to skip the ridge vent inspection on every other install to save an hour. We did it until a house on Maple had massive ice dam damage the next winter because the attic wasn't venting right. The company had to pay for all the interior water damage repair, which was way more than the hour we saved. I check every single ridge vent myself now, no matter what the schedule looks like. That one call back taught me more than any pep talk ever did.
