Just realized a 4 second thumbnail check saves me more rage than watching the first 10 minutes of a video
I used to give every sketchy video a fair shot and watch 10 or 15 minutes before deciding it was a lie, which ate up entire evenings and left me annoyed. Last week I started doing this dumb thing where I just stare at the thumbnail for 4 seconds, cover the text with my finger, and ask if the picture alone honestly shows what the title claims. Out of 12 videos I tried this on, 9 fell apart right there, including one with a red arrow pointing at a blurry blob that turned out to be a smudge on a lens. Watching the first chunk gives the channel time to hook you with music and pacing so you forgive the bait, but the thumbnail has nobody to hide behind. I also noticed the worst offenders slap a shocked face over something that happened at minute 22 for 3 seconds. Does anyone else judge the picture before pressing play, or am I just getting too cranky about this?
