The 'Doctor Reacts' thumbnails at a dermatology conference were pure fiction
I hit up a derm conference in Chicago last weekend for work and the expo hall had a booth selling courses to YouTubers. Their sample thumbnails showed a doctor with a shocked face next to 'THIS CREAM KILLS 99% OF SKIN CANCER' and another with 'DON'T USE SUNSCREEN' in red letters. I watched the actual intros they were selling and the videos were just basic ingredient breakdowns, nothing groundbreaking. The presenter straight up told me the key is having the doctor look like they just smelled a fart, not the medicine. It's wild how these titles work on people, I even caught myself wanting to click on their demo reel. Do you guys think medical channels have a higher bar for truth or do they get a pass on the stress face thing? I've seen a few here push the same angle and it bugs me because health stuff is real stakes.
My brother almost died from a blood clot a few years back. He got all his info from some YouTube doctor who looked horrified in every thumbnail. Guy had a whole video about how compression socks were a scam. We watched it together and honestly the guy's face in the thumbnail looked like he just bit into a lemon while someone yelled fire. My brother wore his socks anyway because his actual doctor yelled at him enough. But I get the pull. That fake shocked face is like a car crash. You know it's garbage but your thumb still wants to click.
