Dropped $200 on a premium mattress topper and my back feels worse

Honestly, I thought spending extra cash on a 3-inch latex topper from a well-known brand would fix my sleep issues. It’s been six weeks now and I wake up with more stiffness than before, like my hips just sink in too far. Tbh, my old $50 foam topper from Target worked better for my body type. Has anyone else dropped money on a pricey topper and ended up regretting it for side sleeping?

Rant: That week in Portland when my hostel bed was infested with bed bugs

I booked a cheap hostel near Powell's Books for a 5 day trip last spring, thinking I'd save money for food. On the second night I woke up with bites along my arm and found a trail of bugs in the mattress seam. Has anyone else dealt with a budget lodging disaster that cost more in lost time and stress than a decent hotel would have?

Heads up about those new MRL controller batteries

Been seeing a bunch of guys swapping out the old flooded batteries in MRLs with sealed AGM ones without changing the charger settings. I caught one smoking last week on a 3-car install downtown. The voltage setpoint is different and the controller will cook them in about 6 months. Anyone else run into this or is it just my area?

Finally found a trick for stubborn Maytag washer drain pumps

Been fighting a bunch of Maytag Bravos washers lately where the drain pump would lock up with socks and debris. Pulling the pump off every time was taking me 45 minutes for each job. I tried using a wet/dry vac on the drain hose first to pull out anything loose, and it cut my time down to maybe 15 minutes. Still have to pull the pump sometimes but about 60% of the time the vac gets the clog. Has anyone else used this approach or found a better way to clear those pumps without full disassembly?

Finally gave the Alistair method a real shot after calling it dumb for months

I used to think those minimalist spreads with just lines and dates looked lazy. But I kept burning out trying to keep up with my full color weekly layouts. Last week I caved and tried the Alistair method for my work tasks and appointments. Dude it actually freed up so much mental space. Now I just do one page for the month with tasks listed and dates marked. Has anyone else switched from fancy spreads to something simpler and stuck with it?

Had a talk with an old timer at the supply house that changed how I tape

I was grabbing some mud and tape at the Ajax Supply down on 4th Street here in Pittsburgh last Tuesday. This old guy probably in his late 60s sees me loading up a flat box and he just goes 'you're fighting the corner, not riding it.' At first I thought he was just making small talk, but he walked me over to the back room and showed me how he wets his knife before every single pass on a inside corner. He said the water lets the paper seat without bubbles and you don't get that crunch sound. I tried it on a job that afternoon and it felt totally different - the tape laid down flat with no fight at all. I never really thought about how much pressure I was putting on the tape instead of letting the mud carry it. Has anyone else picked up a weird trick from some random guy at the yard that actually worked?

Used to think raw glitches in news reports ruined the whole piece, but now I just laugh at the anchor panicking when the teleprompter goes haywire

Switched my take after seeing a blooper reel from a local station in Cleveland back in 2017 where the weather map froze on a massive purple blob for 12 seconds straight. Anyone else prefer the messy real reactions over the polished final cut?

Just realized I might be overwatering my clients' trees after a chat with a soil scientist

I was talking to a soil scientist at a workshop last month in Asheville. She told me most arborists water on a schedule instead of checking the soil moisture first. She said 'you're drowning roots that need air more than water.' Now I'm second guessing my whole routine. Does anyone else follow strict watering timetables or do you check each site individually?

I finally fell for the hype on those $80 magnetic oil drain plugs

Swore they'd save me time on my F-150 but just spent 2 hours fishing metal shavings out of my pan after it collected nothing but a bunch of junk, has anyone else had these things do more harm than good?
