Heard a guy at the bus stop say he fixed his drafty windows with $12 of caulk, so I tried it
My apartment in Minneapolis has those old aluminum frames and the bedroom was always cold. Spent $12 on a tube of caulk and a scraper and did all 4 windows in about an hour. Has anyone else done cheap fixes like this that actually moved the needle on their heating bill?
That "about an hour" part is the real win here. People sleep on caulk because it sounds too simple to matter.
I did the same thing on my back door last winter and the difference was NIGHT and DAY. Cold air just stopped pouring in.
Throw a cheap plastic window kit on top of the caulk and you will really feel it. That combo killed my drafts for under $25 total.
