Switched from driving solo to carpooling to work and it cut my gas bill by half
I used to drive my F-150 alone 30 miles each way to my shop every day. Last year I saw a post from a local Facebook group about a carpool matching thing for our county. I linked up with two other guys who work near me and now we rotate driving a Honda Civic. My gas spending went from around $300 a month down to maybe $120, plus I don't hate my commute as much. Anyone else find a good carpool setup or had it fall apart after a few months?

Carpooling sounds good on paper but I've seen it go wrong more often than not. People get tired of the schedule or one guy starts showing up late every morning. Also relying on other people to be on time for your job is a risk I wouldn't want to take. If your carpool buddy has a family emergency or just quits, you're stuck scrambling for a ride. I'd rather pay the extra money for the peace of mind that comes with my own vehicle.

Look you're right. I tried carpooling once for three months and it was a nightmare. The guy I rode with started showing up 10 minutes late every day by week two because he "needed to grab coffee." Then he quit the carpool without any notice and I was stuck. I missed a meeting that morning because I was scrambling for an Uber. Not worth it. My car key is the only schedule I need.

oh i dunno, is it really that deep though? lol like yeah carpooling can be a hassle but people act like it's a guaranteed disaster. i've been in a carpool for two years and we've had maybe two mornings where someone was late and we just texted ahead. worst case scenario you call an uber one time and move on with your life. it's not like you're signing a blood oath to ride with them forever. plus most people are pretty chill about a heads up if something comes up. i feel like you're lowkey overthinking this whole thing.
