Tried a 'no mow May' in my yard and the electric bill dropped

I left my lawn alone for the whole month, just to help the bees. I was ready for a mess, but my power use went down by about 15% compared to last May. I realized I wasn't running the mower or the electric trimmer every weekend, and the taller grass seemed to keep the soil cooler. It made me see how much energy we use just to keep things looking neat. Has anyone else seen a change in their bills from cutting back on yard work?

My lawn looks like a nature preserve now, but my wallet is happier. I guess I was paying a lot to keep the grass at that perfect, useless height. Maybe messy is the new green.

Our first year with a "no-mow" patch, we counted over twenty types of bees and butterflies. Letting the clover and dandelions come back made a huge difference. The biggest surprise was how much time we got back, not just the money saved on gas and fertilizer. You do have to watch for invasive weeds like creeping Charlie, though, or they'll take over. A quick walk-through every couple weeks to pull the real troublemakers keeps it looking intentional, not just abandoned.

My yard looks like a meadow, but my neighbors probably think I've given up. The only thing growing faster than the grass is my guilt over all those years of pointless mowing. I'm calling it a win for my bank account and the bugs.
