inPro tip: Don't skip the soil compaction test on a job in Phoenix
Honestly, that's a fair point about the crew not knowing how to run a proper compaction test, but doesn't that still fall on the foreman for not making sure they were trained right before pouring? If the guys on site can't tell a soft spot from hard pack, maybe the problem runs deeper than just one lazy foreman. Would the $1,800 fix even hold up if the soil type in that area is known to be bad anyway?

inOverheard my neighbor say she never preheats her oven and her cakes turn out fine
And listen, I'm sitting here nodding along because I'm the guy who used to look down his nose at boxed mixes too. But then I tried making a cake from scratch for my kid's birthday and it came out looking like a brick with frosting. The box mix with the melted butter trick? That's literally my go-to now. I'm not ashamed to admit it anymore, I'd rather save the effort and let the mix do the heavy lifting. My baking skills peaked at "not setting the kitchen on fire" so I'm happy with whatever shortcut works.

inFell for a fake 'government grant' Facebook ad
Wonder if those same scammers run the "free" credit repair kiosks too.

inSerious question, has anyone tried using a zip tie to hold a governor rope in place during a splice?
You know, zip ties work but I gotta gently push back on calling that a "trick" for rope. The real trick is using a half hitch knot, it takes two seconds and actually holds without having to cut the zip tie later. Zip ties are great for bundling or temporary fixes on gear but on actual rope where you need tension, that plastic can slip or snap if it gets wet or you put real weight on it. I've seen guys rely on zip ties for climbing ropes or towing lines and it's a solid way to get yourself in a bind, literally.

inAppreciation post: My $120 fabric scissors were the best and worst buy I ever made
A buddy of mine spent $50 getting her Ginghers fixed after trying to cut through a paper towel tube. She said it was worth every penny compared to buying new ones.
