Vent: Wasted $200 on a smart power strip that did nothing for my energy bill

I bought a fancy smart power strip from a brand called EcoPlug back in June, thinking it would automatically cut power to my TV and speakers when not in use. Turns out most of my devices still draw phantom load through the strip's own wifi chip (go figure), so my savings were like $1 a month. Anyone else fall for these "energy saving" gadgets that just add more standby power drain?

Is it really that serious though? A lot of people act like phantom load is this huge money pit but we're talking pennies a day. You spend more on random coffee runs or streaming subscriptions every month than you'd lose to a TV on standby. Plus that power strip still has a use, you can turn everything off from your phone when you leave the house. That's worth something even if the math on savings isn't perfect.

Why does saving money have to be a bad thing now?

Yeah exactly, I got the same thing and barely saw any change either.
