Switched from G54 to G55 on a second op and cut my setup time in half
I run a small Haas TM-1 at a shop in Akron and always used G54 for everything, even when flipping a part for the second op. Last Tuesday I had a run of 40 aluminum brackets and decided to try G55 for the flip side so the offsets stayed put. Setup went from about 25 minutes of re-touching off to maybe 10, and I didn't scrap a single part all day. It sounds dumb but I'd been doing it the hard way for a long time. Anyone else keep separate work offsets for each op, or do you just re-zero every time?
My old boss at a job shop in Canton had a Bridgeport with a dead screen so we marked offsets with Sharpie on the table and eyeballed it, which worked until someone wiped it down with coolant. Funny thing is he still hit tolerance more often than the new guy who re-zeroed every single part. Point being, whatever keeps your numbers from moving around is the right call, and G55 doing that for you is a win.
