Vent: switched to a 3 flute carbide for aluminum and my finish got worse, not better
Ran a batch of 6061 brackets for a guy in Akron last week, about 200 parts. Everyone online said 3 flute carbide is the way for aluminum, so I bought a 1/2 inch one for $65 and bumped the RPM to 8000. Finish came out gummy with chatter marks in the corners, worse than the 2 flute HSS I'd been using for two years. Turned out my coolant mix was way too lean and the chip evacuation was the real problem, not the tool. Anyone else get burned chasing the tool when it was actually the setup all along?
